Hogs Head Inn, Alnwick, Northumberland - May 2024
Monday 20th May - Friday 24th May 2024
Northumberland really is THE place to go and we cannot wait to take you there.
There’s so much to see, do and experience for every age and taste!
Your stay at the SILVER award winning Hogs Head Inn (part of the Inn Collection Group) is named after the tavern in the Harry Potter books but is nothing short of light, airy, contemporary and spacious! It’s THE place to stay in Northumberland with amazing reviews from all who stay (and return) there.
Inclusivity is everything to our hoteliers: choose from a room with a bath or walk in shower . Free WiFi, TV, Tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryer, safe and iron/ironing board come as standard in every room. Your stay also includes a hearty breakfast each morning and dinner each evening served in the restaurant.
Our itinerary for the trip includes:
Monday:
Our day begins early to make the most of the day. It’s not going to be a mundane journey though—we’re stopping in Kendal for a pitstop! Head to the market or perhaps stock up on some scrumptious Kendal Mint Cake before we continue onwards to our hotel in pretty Alnwick.
Tuesday:
Today we’re off to the stunning ‘Holy Island of Lindisfarne’ for a spot of exploration. This mysterious tidal island is steeped in history since St Aiden opened the first monastery in 635 AD. There will be plenty of time to visit the Priory and/or Castle before we escape the tide and wet toes! We travel onwards to the beautiful Berwick upon Tweed famed for having perfectly preserved Elizabethan fortifications. Full of ‘nooks’ and ‘crannies’, walk the town walls, perhaps book a cultural tour or just delight in the sea air and beautiful scenery.
Wednesday:
Today it’s time to hit the ’Toon’ - the vibrant city of Newcastle! There is so much to see and do ... you might even see a cow grazing (as communal grazing is still active in this quirky city). Find parts of Hadrian's Wall and seek out the ’Geordie’ (known for his sense of humour!) The Victoria Tunnel tour offers a subterranean historical experience, or visit the Norman Fortress , the architecturally resplendent quayside or one of the city’s museums or art galleries .
Thursday:
We have a treat for you today—we’re off to the famous Alnwick Castle and Gardens. Explore the castle on a self-guided tour (filming locations used in Downton Abbey and Harry Potter !); admire the gardens; and delve into the extraordinary history of the estate. Our day ends at Alnwick’s markets with so many exciting stalls on offer—you’re bound to find a trinket or two!
Friday:
Our last day together! Enjoy breakfast before it’s time to check out. We do have one last treat for you as we make a stop at the historic market town of Hexham enroute home with the famous Abbey at its heart!
